The Opportunity
To support Visy’s Intermodal growth, we are on the lookout for a seasoned leader to manage all operations in Melbourne. The Operations Manager will work out of Epping, with occasional travel to Port Melbourne expected. Reporting to the General Manager – Intermodal, you will be responsible for effective management of the company fleet and labour operations; taking full P&L and safety responsibility for operations; the role will manage road and warehouse services and ensuring customer delivery schedules are met. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in Transport/Intermodal Management and a passion for driving continuous improvement in operational performance.
The key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Manage and deliver P&L results and update financial forecasts monthly
- Provide insights into financial performance of the fleet and site operations to management
- Effective management of the Company Fleet and Labour operations
- Ensure efficient use of labour across driving & warehouse functions, including permanent & casual employment
- Monitor and analyse driver KPI’s to track operational performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed
- Ensure accurate tracking and movement of equipment, managing supplier relationships, and resolving issues as they arise, minimizing disruption to operations
- Maintain inventory levels and prepare quarterly inventory audits as needed
- Collaborate with various stakeholders and internal support services such as sales, commercial, customer service, and safety
- Continuous improvement on OH&S, Compliance, Injury Management, and RTW processes
What you will bring to the team:
- An extensive understanding of Intermodal Transport and Warehousing
- Containerized Import/Export experience & knowledge of port environment
- Experience leading/managing high quality teams in the freight/logistics industry
- Sound computer literacy in MS Office Suite, TMS, Container Chain, & CargoWise
- Currently holds (or is eligible to obtain) a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
- Your ability to build relationships with external and internal stakeholders from all levels makes you a true enabler
- Proven success in building or expanding business operations
- You are hands on, tenacious and not afraid to take ownership and accountability
