Role details:
You’ll report to the Paper and Board Laboratory Manager and play a key role in our product quality testing team within the Visy Operational Excellence group. Based in Coolaroo, Melbourne, in this role, you’ll learn the fundamentals of paper and board manufacturing, quality testing, and the material science behind paperboard products. You’ll then apply this knowledge to strengthen our quality assurance processes and contribute to product development initiatives across the business.
You’ll carry out accurate testing and reporting on pulp, board, and paper samples in our Technical Centre laboratory. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement projects and build your expertise in equipment performance and product troubleshooting.
Key responsibilities:
- Build your knowledge of paper and board fundamentals and laboratory test methods.
- Carry out pulp, paper and board testing and accurately report your results.
- Analyse quality data and interpret lab findings to support improvement decisions.
- Perform internal equipment calibrations and routine checks.
- Monitor environmental chambers daily to ensure testing integrity.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised laboratory environment.
- Support and participate in assigned projects.
- Conduct Dangerous Goods testing in line with procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities across the lab.
- Develop and update work instructions and procedures for new and existing tests.
What You Will Bring:
- Tertiary qualification in a science or engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in laboratory testing or packaging manufacturing (desirable).
- Strong attention to detail, work ethic and drive for excellence.
- Systematic, service‑oriented approach with the ability to learn lab methods quickly.
- Able to manage workload priorities and complete testing efficiently.
- Keen to develop knowledge in paper material science.
