Production Manager

Job no: 40000192
Work type: Full Time
Location: Melbourne - West

Role Details:

At Visy, we’re transforming waste into valuable resources and driving a more sustainable future. Our Laverton Glass Recycling facility is one of the most advanced in Australia, featuring fully automated and robotic systems that plays a critical role in supplying high-quality cullet back into glass manufacturing – and we’re now seeing a Production Manager to lead our production operations.

As Production Manager, you’ll be accountable for coordinating people, plant and processes to ensure the safe, efficient and profitable operation of our Laverton facility. You’ll lead labour planning, drive throughput, yield and quality, champion safety excellence and partner closely with Maintenance, Engineering and the Site Leadership Team to continuously improve performance.

You won’t manage from an office — you’ll be on the floor, coaching your team, solving problems and stepping in where needed to keep production running.

What you'll do:

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OH&S, Visy standards and EPA licence conditions.
  • Lead production operations across all shifts to achieve throughput, yield, quality and cost targets.
  • Own labour planning including rostering, annual leave coverage and casual resourcing.
  • Actively manage wages and labour efficiency within approved budgets.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean thinking, RCA, FMEA and operational problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering to enable asset care and plant optimisation.
  • Support capital initiatives through business case development and benefit analysis.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, OEMs and suppliers.

What You Will Bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with industrial plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated capability in production planning, labour management and KPI-driven performance.
  • A data-driven, improvement-focused mindset with strong troubleshooting and RCA capability.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Engineering qualification or trade background.
  • Forklift licence and front-end loader competency (or willingness to obtain).

What you’ll love when you join us:

  • Sustainability: Contribute to sustainability initiatives that make a difference.
  • Supportive Environment: Be part of a team that values safety, respect, and collaboration.
  • Growth & Recognition: Join a team that values your expertise, offers development pathways and celebrates your contribution
  • Leave: Access lifestyle and purchased leave programs
  • Discounts: Take advantage of discounted products and services with RSEA, Harvey Norman, BMW, Avis and many more

About Visy

Visy is powering the circular economy, closing the loop between packaging, recycling and remanufacturing. We believe materials are not truly recycled until they’re made into something new—and it all starts with Visy Recycling. As Australia’s largest recycler, our extensive network of recycling operations is integrated with our manufacturing sites. We collect and sort recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, glass, plastics and metals from households and businesses, and locally remanufacture them back into new, sustainable packaging.
